Russia says ship inspections under grain deal resume

MOSCOW, Jun 5 (PRIME) -- Inspections of ships under the grain deal have resumed, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said on Monday.

"As far as we know, the joint coordination center in Istanbul is working on solving all problems arising from the procedural rules approved last year and assumes that there will be a consensus solution for the problems that appear. The inspections were restarted," Vershinin said.

The official also said that Russia sees no prospects for prolongation of the deal but continues consultation with the U.N. officials with the next scheduled for Friday in Geneva.

Russia informed the joint coordination center of a decision to restrict registration of ships in the port of Yuzhny under the grain deal in retaliation for the impossibility of ammonia exports on June 1. No ship inspections took place since.
